An Interesting Paramedic Blog

This fellow is from London, England, where they currently use the SMART traige tags and system.
We use the system here in Connecticut, and they also use it as the state standard in North Carolina as well. I am sure it has reached to other places, but these are just two I have run into personally.

Kim’s Blog- Memphis August 31
Still not too much sleep. It’s about 4am and I am on the side of I-55 somewhere. I am not sure if it is Tennessee yet or not, but I am pretty sure it is not still Louisiana. After yesterday, I am glad to be out of the city, headed someplace safe and still I am unsure of how long I will be gone from my family. I am headed to Memphis to track Gustav’s evacuees for our Memphis Area group, and by the sounds of it, I won’t be looking forward to sleep anytime soon. I don’t really mind, though, all Disaster Response people like to pretend we hate the no sleeping, no eating, up for days, high stress, helping lots of people with minimal resources things, but the truth is, most of us love the challenge.
The next round of people should be arriving today, hopefully after I get a chance to eat and maybe shower…

This National Response Framework
brain cells
What is the National Response Framework ?
The National Response Framework is explained in a guide put out by FEMA to how the nation conducts all-hazards incident response. It is built upon flexible, scalable and adaptable coordinating structures to align key roles and responsibilities across the nation, linking all levels of government and private sector businesses and nongovernmental organizations. It is intended to capture specific authorities and best practices for managing mass casualty incidents that range from the serious but purely local, to large-scale terrorist attacks or catastrophic natural disasters. It explains the common discipline and structures that have been exercised and matured at the local, State and national levels over time. It captures key lessons learned from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, focusing particularly on how the Federal Government is organized to support communities and States in catastrophic incidents. Most importantly, it builds upon the National Incident Management System (NIMS), which provides a consistent national template for managing incidents. Read the entire document here.
Pioneering companies like Disaster Management Solutions have been involved in developing technology based patient tracking systems over the long-term, with roots that began prior to 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina. We aim to keep up to date on all goverment initiatives and standards, such as the National Response Framework.
